Pieces of me: Reception Centerpieces

With a meeting with our caterer and coordinator approaching, I wanted to prepare a sort of 'trial run' for our centerpieces. Something to illustrate my ideas and the look I was going for. So far, the plan has been to have our florist create small arrangements with purple and yellow flowers, and we are providing these awesome ikea white vases.

Vases that have made their appearance at recent weddings. They stand out beautifully against vibrant flowers.

We had chosen to do white table cloth and napkins, similar to the tables in photos above and below. Since our flowers are varying yellow and purple shades, they will stand out among the white vases, but the white vases can blend in with a white table cloth.

So we considered table runners and place mats to provide a sort of anchor and focus between the table cloth and vases. A disconnect of all the white will also showcase the detail of the pretty vases.

Table runners would be ideal, especially in a bold color like below.

But I've fallen for the look of a nice place mat style centerpiece anchor similar to the photos above and below.

I think it would break up the white of the table cloth and the vases, adding a nice pop of color between the two.

We decided that if we purchased another wedding related item, it should have a dual purpose. These purple placemats from ikea were perfect. We could use them at the reception and then in our home afterward. The color was great, the shape was great (I really like circles), and the textured detail was great.

After playing around with layout, purchasing some stand-in flowers, and adding extra paper details, two arrangements looked really good.

First arrangement had the 5 vases arranged in the same distance from one another, sort of in a circle shape.

I feel like the punched out circle shapes in different paper, color, and pattern add a nice touch. They are not a must, and I'm unsure about how they will look with our actual flowers, but they are nice accessory pieces.

Bird's eye view of the circle layout.

The other layout I liked was all 5 vases lined up across the diameter of the place mat.

This layout helps to notice the textures and patterns of the vases.

Another bird's eye view.

Overall, I'm happy with the outcome. I hope everyone likes it.

How do you plan to arrange the various elements of your centerpiece?
