Good bye, July!

This month has been full of events and adventures. We found ourselves enjoying San Francisco, lounging around SB, making so many trips to LA... it was all super fun! Summer sun has been shining bright and the breeze has kept this July super cool. I love it.

Cheers to a good summer, and an awesome August!

Weekender: Los Angeles Fun

Between to-do lists, trade show prep, and business taxes, an awesome weekend in Los Angeles was just what I needed. And oh did the weekend deliver! Sun skies, happy friends, good food, and some shopping made for the perfect way to recharge and be ready for the week ahead.

Below are a few happy stand outs.

Rajas Fries: Carne Asada, cheese, roasted chillies, and cilantro on french fries by Fry Smith. Amazing.

Free drinks during the For Your Art event at 6020 Wilshire. While sipping on these drinks we shopped from Made in LA artisanal vendors including Z Confections and le bon garcon.

 

A stop by Crafted to see fruition's space. Raychel is one of my favorite designers and she created such a good space to showcase her jewelry among other artists/hand crafters that she likes.

 

Then a stop by Renegade Craft Fair. We enjoyed seeing a lot of our favorite vendor friends, especially MNKR. Their new booth design is too good.

In Coral

The color of this Clare Vivier clutch grabbed my attention last Saturday. It is bright, cool, deep, bold, and so perfectly summer. It is the perfect shade. It inspired me to re-style my honey my heart logo. So I conferred with my awesome friend Shannon of sass and peril, and she added an awesome splash of color to my logo!!

 

Hello, new look!

In the midst of this wonderful summer, the new logo has brightened all of the honey my heart online pages! Hooray for a happy facebook, twitter, homepage, and etsy shop :)

Bouncing Souls at the Mayan

On tour to promote their new album, Comet, The Bouncing Souls rocked a show at the Mayan in Downtown LA a few weeks back. Being one of my favorite bands, this concert was a definite must see. Well, every time they stop in the LA area is a must see for me ;) 

Being on the older side of the average age in the crowd, my husband and I found our way to the front row of the raised level/bar area where we could see the stage clearly and not be among the masses. This made for great views of the stage and crowd, and an unobstructed view of the band. It was awesome. And when The Bouncing Souls took the stage for over an hour, it was more awesome.

Familiar songs like "Kids and Heroes", "Hopeless Romantic", "Say Anything", "Midnight Mile", and "Private Radio" were performed. And new songs from Comet like "Coin Toss Girl" and "In Sleep" brought a fresh feel to it. It's heart warming to see how the band has grown from record to record, yet still hold on to their roots and put on something special.

In previous shows they closed with "Gone" but recently have the show ending with "Ship in a Bottle" which is my new favorite song... "With every peak and valley. With every white knuckle fist. With everything I've lost and learned. I won't let go of this grip."

Feature in I SPY DIY

I am so happy to share that my heart shaped jewelry and little etsy shop was featured on one of my favorite DIY blogs, I SPY DIY!! I met Jenni at the Unique LA Summer Show, where we shared a love for DIY and heart forming tips/tricks. It is really heart warming to be mentioned by such an awesome blogger. My heart is full.

Weekend Feasting at the LA Street Food Fest

We attended the LA Street Food Fest on Saturday and oh, was it a feast! The late afternoon to evening event held some of LA's best food trucks, restaurants, desserts, and drinks. And with a venue like the Rose Bowl, it was great Summer day of walking the grounds and enjoying the field while getting my nosh on. Below are a few photos of the delicious bites! I really wanted to take more photos, but was too busy stuffing my face ;)

The lines did not deter me from trying as many good eats as possible. 

Chicken Pot Pie over fries from Fry Smith! I want to try and make this at home.

Delicious milk tea and boba from The Mighty Boba Truck. They were so nice and let us come back for seconds!

Delicious slow cooked pork over a corn mash and...

Fried pork ear! From Haven Gastropub.

These fresh little bites from Ayara Thai Cuisine were Bangkok Moo-ping pork skewers and Phaya Thai spicy grilled clams, and convinced me to try out the restaurant.

Black Jack Quesedilla by Kogi BBQ! This is one of my most favorite bites of any LA food truck.

 

We enjoyed a lot of sweets, too! From the scoops of ice cream to donuts to cookies, it was all sugary goodness. I loved this chocolate ganache tart. It was filled with salted caramel and just amazing!

 

Mini french toast topped with creme, bacon bits, powdered sugar, and a raspberry. The little pieces of bacon was the best idea! 

 

One of my favorite parts of the day was getting to walk and lounge on the Rose Bowl field! It was really cool to be down on the famous field. There was also a tequila tasting area there, which made time on the field extra good.

And the best view of the day: grilled cheese and the field.

2nd Annual Unique LA Summer Show

Hello all and happy Tuesday! We had a great weekend at the 2nd Annual Unique LA Summer show and feel so energized, inspired, excited. Our weekend in Santa Monica was full of creativity. From the designers to the artisanal food, each part of Unique LA was nothing short of stellar. The Unique crew really know how to gather the best and cultivate a community. It is always an honor and joy to be part of it.

Here are a few snaps from the show.

Help Ink is one of my favorite print/stationery brands. Their art is positive and portions of each piece go towards charity.

Z Confections has the best chocolate sauce. It is spoon licking goodness.

Love Nail Tree's booth is always a favorite.

A new favorite stationery of mine is Shimmer Kai. Their cool colors and relaxed vibe are oh so Southern California.

One of my standard favorite stationery/paper goods brands is Sass & Peril.

Their DIY screen printed postcard station was interactive genius! I had a lot of fun learning the craft and screen printing my very own postcard.

And my boothmate: le bon garcon. Justin crafts the most amazing caramels that smoothly melt in your mouth. They are like little drops of heaven and I highly suggest them!!

The view from my booth. The Barker Hangar has massive height and when the doors are open, natural light rushes in. I loved the energy of the building and the crowd.

Right at the border of the open doors was the Toyota interactive space. There was a killer DIY table, fun in-car photo booth, free massage station, and on the spot screen printed t-shirts. Mom and I happy with some new tees. The CA dream catcher and LA heart designs are so perfect for the show.

And now: the honey my heart table. The color scheme was neutral and bright.

We met plenty of awesome shoppers through out the weekend, and fell in love with Mark Kanemura! He's an amazing dancer (been on SYTYCD and is one of Lady Gaga's dancers) and the sweetest guy. We loved chatting with him and meeting his friends.

We also loved the #ToyotaGiving campaign. Each tweet brought a $2 donation to a local charity. Our board said, "I will... buy local and love it (honey)!"
