Slipping in to a suit and tie: Groom's Outfit

The fiance tried on his entire ensemble (sans shoes) the other day. He had just purchased cuff links and wanted to preview how the pieces of his wedding day look fit together. Here are a few details of his outfit.

Inner detail of his suit jacket has the Brooks Brothers logo and is lined with vertical lines.

Cuff links with the Burberry check pattern in a gray. I like that the circle shape gives them a modernish look.

I recently learned that cuff links should be worn on a French cuff shirt. "A French cuff, also called a double cuff, is a folded back cuff that you can secure with knot closures or with cuff links. These cuffs do not have button closures, which sets them apart from your average dress shirts. French cuffs are often considered more formal, particularly with the use of high quality cuff links."(via mensflair.com) He purchased a crisp, white "wash and wear" shirt, no ironing required :)

A purple check tie to match the check pattern in the cuff links. I really love the shade.

It matches the gray shade of his suit very nicely.

Here is the look. We love the each piece can be worn numerous times. He just needs a belt and shoes, then he will be set. Hooray!

Only shades of gray: Groom's Suit

The fiance has come a long way in his fashions. From the daily jeans/tshirt/flipflop combo of college to a wider color, fabric, and pattern palette of today, I would definitely say his eyes have opened to the world of fashion. This has come at a great time, of course, since he has just purchased his wedding suit.

At first he wanted a black suit since it's traditional and classic and suitable for any occasion. But black just seems so... black. For a summer time wedding I wanted something with a lighter and more casual feel. So we compromised with gray, a shade in between charcoal and light gray.

We gathered up some inspiration. Luckily for us plenty of grooms have rocked a gray suit in various shades and patterns.

The fiance considered designers he loves: Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Brooks Brothers, all of which are a bit on the pricier end. Then we remembered that his suit is more versatile than my dress, and he can wear it multiple times and on multiple occasions, so it's okay to spend a bit more.

We took a weekend in June to visit Brooks Brothers (they were having a sale!). Their price range was reasonable and their suit collection vast. The fiance started by trying on about 5 gray jackets, each differing slightly in cut, buttons, and shade. The salesmen explained that gray suits usually have a slight pattern in them (plaid, pinstripe) which differs from black suits that are available without those details.

We navigated our way through patterns that were a bit to bold, finding the perfect shade with an ever so slight pattern. Turns out he's got modern eye in regards to the suit, which is part of the Brooks Bros Black Fleece collection.

Once we decided to purchase, next up was fitting the suit. The jacket fit perfectly while the pants needed some alterations. Their in-house tailor adjusted pant length (which was long enough to fit someone 6'5") and the fit on the waist.

A week later the suit was ready so as I was getting my dress fit and bustled, the fiance was at Brooks Bros trying on his newly altered suit. He took some photos of him in the dressing room and sent each to me :)

Pant length is now perfect, but those are the store's shoes since he forgot to bring his own.


Next up is picking out a shirt and finding the perfect shade of purple for the tie.

I am in love with Chuck Bass. He's just sooooooo him. Can't describe the attraction, but I just know that he's freaking awesome. Two weeks ago he wore this sequined jacket to the Snowflake Ball.

It's fancy, sharp, and sooooo fun. The Killers' Brandon Flowers, in support of stylish statements, even says, "I don't understand why more people don't wear sequins."

And while I don't think my love will rock that style of jacket on the wedding day, I have put together a few suits that are quite dapper.
