Recent Los Angeles Eats

Since moving to LA in October, we have had the opportunity to try countless awesome places around town. Some places have become fast favorites (see Thai Vegan above) while others are occasional treats, and all are quite tasty.

Various sides at Lemonade. All veg, all good. And their selection of lemonade is quite nice.

My newest fave dessert: Blockheads Shavery Co.'s green tea topped with strawberries, almonds, and condensed milk.

And anything from Urth Caffe. I really enjoy their breakfast and drinks.

Recent Little Bites

The last few weeks have given me the opportunity to enjoy some awesome bite size goodies. And while I love a large bowl of spaghetti or burger and fries, I find these little bites to be just as satisfying.

A personal pumpkin pizza! It was such a hot Saturday, but this taste of Fall had me ready for the season.

NY Snow is a mix of shaved ice and ice cream. This one was topped with peaches. I'm in love with shaved ice.

Egg Slut LA makes the best eggs (besides my mom). Their scrambled eggs topped with chives were so fluffy and filling.

Mama Musubi salmon hand roll. The mango inside was such a perfect cool, sweet flavor for a hot day.

Pork belly inside a musubi. Dying for it.

And the perfect way to cool off: a tiny cup of gelato.

Weekend Feasting at the LA Street Food Fest

We attended the LA Street Food Fest on Saturday and oh, was it a feast! The late afternoon to evening event held some of LA's best food trucks, restaurants, desserts, and drinks. And with a venue like the Rose Bowl, it was great Summer day of walking the grounds and enjoying the field while getting my nosh on. Below are a few photos of the delicious bites! I really wanted to take more photos, but was too busy stuffing my face ;)

The lines did not deter me from trying as many good eats as possible. 

Chicken Pot Pie over fries from Fry Smith! I want to try and make this at home.

Delicious milk tea and boba from The Mighty Boba Truck. They were so nice and let us come back for seconds!

Delicious slow cooked pork over a corn mash and...

Fried pork ear! From Haven Gastropub.

These fresh little bites from Ayara Thai Cuisine were Bangkok Moo-ping pork skewers and Phaya Thai spicy grilled clams, and convinced me to try out the restaurant.

Black Jack Quesedilla by Kogi BBQ! This is one of my most favorite bites of any LA food truck.

 

We enjoyed a lot of sweets, too! From the scoops of ice cream to donuts to cookies, it was all sugary goodness. I loved this chocolate ganache tart. It was filled with salted caramel and just amazing!

 

Mini french toast topped with creme, bacon bits, powdered sugar, and a raspberry. The little pieces of bacon was the best idea! 

 

One of my favorite parts of the day was getting to walk and lounge on the Rose Bowl field! It was really cool to be down on the famous field. There was also a tequila tasting area there, which made time on the field extra good.

And the best view of the day: grilled cheese and the field.

Egg Slut LA

I am an egg lover. I heart them all kinds of ways (over easy, hard boiled, coddled, omelet style, scrambled with some cheese, in a salad...) and I especially like the way my mom cooks them: sunny side up with a runny yolk. I would love to eat a sunny side up egg daily, but since I can't I'm happy to get my egg fix from a food truck.

Enter: Egg Slut Los Angeles. A gourmet food truck dedicated to the incredible, edible egg!

The menu, specials, and some photos of the goodness. They also accommodate special requests like a fried egg on a bun, cook it the way you like (over hard, medium, easy), and are such nice fellows.

Below are a few bites we enjoyed:


This could be one of my most favorite macaroni and cheese dishes. It is made up of macaroni, cheddar, scrambled eggs, and chives. Just amazing.


PBJ to the Z. preanut butter cream cheese spread, hardwood smoked bacon, over medium egg, fig preserve, on a wonderfully light and fluffy brioche bun.


Bar Burger: over medium egg, tillamook cheddar, chipotle ketchup, mustard aoili, and brioche bun. I ordered this with an over easy egg for extra yolky goodness.

Other menu items that we are excited to try: BELT (bacon, egg salad, lettuce, tomato sandwich), scrambled eggs and caprese, ta tas (fried potatoes, fried egg, lemon aoli, chives, paprika), and the madame: Ham x emmentaler x gruyere mornay x fried eggs x french loaf.

Recent Gourmet Food Truck Treats

With plenty of events and celebrations in LA over the last couple of months, we've had the chance to try lots of gourmet food trucks we've been dying to taste. Here is a sampling of our recent eats.

Lomo Arigato. An order of Tallarin Saltado is saucy, seasoned, spaghetti like, and a serving is enough for 4 people. After getting our food, we spied actor Anthony Anderson hitting up Lomo Arigato :)


Sweet and refreshing, Tango Mango Italian Shave Ice is perfectly smooth on a hot day. We ordered the watermelon flavor and it was like eating a watermelon.


Papas Tapas. A little pulled pork slider.


Komodo Food. Amazing truffle fries and tacos. The Asian marinated chicken taco had a nice spicy kick.


Meaning "snack" at a pub in Korean, Ahn Joo's treats are perfect for late night. Above is a grilled nutella bhang with strawberries. Loved it!


And because a sweet tooth is something my family and I share, two trucks hit the spot. Sweets Truck has huge cupcakes and good cakes!


Lake Street Creamery. Old timey feel, old time flavors. We enjoyed blueberry, donut, and Don Draper (vanilla with bourbon, smoke, and caramel). Loved how the scoops come in waffle bowls and with wooden spoons, keeping it green :)

My hubs said we've hit over 40 of LA's gourmet food trucks over the last year. I'm looking forward to trying more!

Friday Night Bites: Grill 'Em All

Every Friday the White Rabbit Cafe hosts a weekly Friday Night Bites. From 6pm-9pm, a different gourmet food truck parks outside of the cafe and provides their yummy treats as an extra for those who visit the cafe. Last Friday the Grill 'Em All Truck was there! Since their appearance on The Amazing Food Truck Race, I'd been wanting to try Grill 'Em All. It's been hard trying to track them down and having their schedule fit into ours, but hooray for the schedules aligning this weekend.

Order window. Their menu offers so much and is quite expansive. We ordered 2 behemoths and 1 witte. Each came with a side of pomme frites and our choice of sauces.






Sister, hubs bro, me! Guess we subconsciously decided to coordinate our outfits with blue and purple.


We headed inside the cafe to eat and buy more food. Boba Truck Cafe's menu! I am obsessed with boba :)


Honey green tea, mini boba, and lychee jelly. This is one of many drinks we shared.


The behemoth. 2 grilled cheese sandwiches serve as the bun for a 7 ounce burger, bacon, beer soaked onions, and cheese. The pomme frites were a super good side.


And because there is a never ending pit in my siblings' stomachs, carne fries were ordered.


With some macarons for dessert!

I heart being the occasional piggy. Hopefully we do another Friday Night Bites soon!
