Oh Hello Friend Shop Opening!

Saturday afternoon was inspirational. After meeting with two great ladies about branding, we headed over to the Oh Hello Friend shop opening in Fullerton. I have been a fan of Danni for some years, and am so happy to call her a vendor friend when I started doing shows a few years ago. It is such an inspiration to see Oh Hello Friend grow and grow, and blossom into a shop!

So many people came out to support! It was stuffed but still cozy.

One of my favorite vignettes in the shop was these two dolls and tassels.

 I could spend hours browsing each section of the OHF shop. The level of detail and care is so apparent. There was plenty of OHF products/findings/stationery offered, and the cultivation of designers OHF carries besides her own is just beyond.

The success is quite amazing and rightfully so. Congratulations to Danni! Wishing you the best.

Of every beautiful, powerful word Michelle Obama spoke at the DNC on Tuesday night, that sentence stuck with me most. Because as we grow and change and experience life, we must share those lessons and pass on the love. We are all in this together. President Clinton said it many times tonight. I believe it. I am inspired by it.

We are finally back from a week of travel, our first trade show, networking, food, Vegas fun, and LA fun... and are intensely inspired! Between the very warm reception of honey my heart by boutiques across the USA to seeing old friends/meeting new ones, I am ready for what's next. And when I saw this quote written outside of Reform School in Silver Lake, my heart was happy. Hard work and a great support system is key to any success. We are all in this together.

Follow Your Heart

Spotted this little nugget of inspiration while strolling down Abbot Kinney on Saturday. I had been shopping from some friends at the Venice Meet and on my way to pick up some paper goods, and of the numerous amount of street art on Abbot Kinney, "Follow Your Heart" stood out the most. And it meant a lot to see. All those friends selling their handmade good and gourmet edibles are following their entrepreneurial desire, sharing their love through their goods. The boutique I was heading to is a locally owned small business and showcased so much stationery, for the many from independent designers who do what they love. And I was enjoying such a good summer day with good people, inspired to create for an upcoming trade show, following my heart.

It's such an easy saying and such a simple thought, but it's so deep and meaningful. Whether professional, personal, emotional, following your heart and what you feel ultimately brings happiness.

Heart Ring Inspired by I Spy DIY

I am a fan of the heart shape. The heart shape can be seen in my jewelry line's earring, ring, bracelet, and necklace detail. I have a certain way of forming my hearts, which produces a full/round/symmetrical heart look, but I'm always looking to learn new techniques and play with different styles. A few weeks ago I met Jenni of I Spy DIY at Unique LA and started reading her awesome blog. And then I found a post about her DIY heart rings. They look so awesome and the shape feels so right-now, that I was inspired to create some I Spy DIY heart rings of my own.

 

Jenni's instructions were so easy to follow, within minutes the hearts were formed. I like how edgy they look compared to the My Heart collection.

And to add a little honey my heart touch to this DIY, I soldered the bottom part of the heart to the remainder of the sterling silver wire, then measured and cut the wire to my ring size, soldered that part to one of the heart's peaks, and hammered it into a nice circle.

Fizz & Frills Wedding Marketplace

We had visited San Francisco at the beginning of August to participate in fizz & frills: A Wedding Market Place. Held at blu bungalow on Union Street, fizz & frills was 2-day event hosted by Utterly Engaged and Lovely Jubilee that featured a pop up shop of independent designers, make up and hair stations, drinks and desserts, and wonderful conversations. It was such a stylish and well designed fete for brides and frill seekers.


The colors of the event were navy blue, coral, and creamy white. It is one of my favorite color combos and I liked seeing it in various details throughout the event.

There were plenty of conversations, diy project, and a Q&A about being brides and the first year of marriage. I really loved the community aspect of it.


Sweet accessories for your wedding day carried in The Collection Event Studio. I totally wanted the coral clutch.


Over the Moon Vintage Rentals had lots of fun supplies, tags, accessories to decorate your venue. I'm even considering some for my table design.

Very awesome personalized boutonnieres for the groom and groomsmen by Fritts Rosenow. Some favorites include a boom box, sailboat, Super Mario, and SF Giants logo with baseball bat. I love that this is extra flair for the men and can be worn over and over.


My table. When I heard the event was at blu bungalow I decided to change the colors my heart displays to shades of blue. It actually matched nicely with the light pink polka dot table cloth and paper flowers provided to us.


I have been so inspired since returning from fizz & frills. The design and details, caliber of event, and lovely ladies who created the event have made my August a month full of ideas and work towards the growth of honey my heart. I can't wait to work with them all again.

Suprasensorial and Some Sneaky Photos at MOCA

A quick trip to LA last Saturday brought us to Japantown for lunch and a visit Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. My cousin Nicole of dans les details recently blogged her visit to the Suprasensorial: Experiments in Light, Color, and Space exhibit and after seeing the photos, I was really excited to experience it for myself.

Being able to explore an exhibit, walk into an installation, touch and experience the art was quite stimulating and interesting. Going from light to dark to colorful, and being able to see each installation from different angles and points of view gave hubs and I a chance to get lost for a while.

Reminding me of graffiti and scribbles, this was my favorite installation.




Cromosaturación, Carlos Cruz-Diez. This installation was divided into 3 rooms. Each room was clean and minimal, illuminated by green, red, or blue fluorescent lights. The colors you see change as you move from room to room, providing a great experience to the senses.

Being able to walk through these blue plastic string was a true sensory experience. Walking forward, backward, sideways. Too much fun.





There were no photos allowed in the rest of the museum, but I rebelled and took a few when the guards weren't looking ;)
