DIY Doily Cards for Mother's Day
For her Mother's Day gift, my mom wants me to donate to a charity under her name. The charity will send her a "Thank-You" note, but I also want to give her something special to keep so I put together a few fancy cards for her, MIL, and some of my aunts.
I have recently become obsessed with the delicacy and intricacy of doilies. The details are fun and feminine, while the vintage look can easily be updated through colors and patterns. I drew inspiration from Homespun with Heart, real invitations on Oh So Beautiful Paper, and heart on my sleeve's invitations , used gold and white doilies from Michael's, included leftover paper/decal that I always save, and went with bright colors. Below are a few of my favorite cards:
A blue card anchors the big gold doily, little white doily, glittery pink and lavender circles, and a daisy on top :)
I love the detail of this card when looking at it up close. So much is going on, but to me it works.
Purple envelope, gold doily, pink glitter circle.
The Blue completed set.
This lavender card gives a light, neutral background to the gold doily, glittery pink and light pink circles, and a daisy. I wanted to put two of each on the card, so I made them spill off the edges for a less striking look.
Blue envelope, gold doily, and pink glitter circle with similar spill off the edges look.
The Lavender completed set.
Hot pink was the theme for this card. Started with a hot pink base followed by a gold doily, glittery pink and lavender circles, and a daisy.
I really like to layer things. To me, this card is ultra feminine :)
The Hot Pink completed set.
Little white doilies, light pink patterned circles, and daisies provide a light, almost airiness to the hot pink card.
I attached the same white style doily and light pink patterned paper to the envelope to complete the look.
Larger glittery pink circles were placed over this white doily-ish pattern to sort of look like a flower. I also put a pink patterned circle cut out over the glittery pink to give it more texture. And a daisy to tie the whole thing together.
The envelope had doilies folded over on both sides.
Back of envelope.
And the completed set.I continue to be fascinated with doily patterns, textures, and colors. Hopefully there will be more to come :)
