In an effort to save money on wedding details and to flex my DIY muscles, I thought about utilizing paper flowers as reception decor. Inspired by the paper flowers showcased in such grandeur during the Chanel Couture 2009 show, considering it was simply folded and cut office grade paper, I scoured the internet hoping that this idea might reach fruition. Now I may not be as talented as Katsuya Komo but there seem to be some good options out there.
More gorgeous detailing. It's amazing how intricate the design is.
This is a good photo of one of their larger camellia flowers.
Paper Source has an array of paper flowers to craft. You can create bouquets, garlands, and centerpieces from pretty patterned paper. They have styles depicting magnolia, poppies, orchids, and daffodils in the colors of the rainbow.
Martha Stewart Weddings also offers some delicate DIY flowers. A lovely bouquet with delicate petals. Creative seating cards where the flower's color could be used as meal selection (plum for fish, lavender for chicken). Crepe paper flowers as boutonniere stand ins or centerpieces.
Paper flowers are a good idea for crafty brides who want to save money on live flowers, but would like to get the same effect. They will last longer and can be used post-wedding to decorate your home or office. Guests might even like to take some home. The only drawbacks I see are the delicacy of crepe paper flowers, and they won't have a fragrance. But all in all, paper flowers are a good way to lighten the budget.
Have you incorporated an alternative to real flowers? How did that work out?
Edit: After I wrote this blog (at work) I checked reader and saw M and M wedding's creative DIY paper flowers. They turned out way gorgeous!
