Weekender: This Is Your Library

We spent Saturday night at the Downtown LA Central Library for This Is Your Library event. This event was a late-night talk show style conversation with 4 awesome LA people: NBA champ John Salley, actor Colin Hanks, Unique LA's Sonja Rasula, and author Mark Danielewski. They spoke about their connections to LA, current projects, and their connection with the library.

The host getting the audience warmed up with jokes. He was fun.

John Salley spoke about his childhood (originally from Brooklyn), vegan lifestyle, first PETA experience (it included leather pants!), and basketball. He is a 4 time NBA Champion and won his rings with for Detroit (basketbaaaaall), Chicago, and the LA Lakers. I loved his humor and quickness with the jokes/stories, his analysis of the Lakers' season, and I really loved his statement about Kobe being the best.

Colin Hanks spoke about "Dexter", his childhood in Sacramento, collecting records, and more basketball. He likes LA's other team (the Clippers), which made for a lot of fun back and forth with Salley.

It was Sonja of Unique LA who got me interested in attending this event. She's such an awesome person and I wanted to support her :) Loved that she spoke about growing up and going to the Central Library. Also loved hearing how her life journey and events brought her to create Unique LA. She does so much for independent designers and the LA community.

And Mark Danielewski shared how his Burning Man adventure turned into inspiration for a character in his new book. It was spiritual and funny.

The night ended with music on the patio and a little bothering of an NBA star. So happy that John posed for a photo with us. He is 6'11". From a few feet away, he didn't seem that tall. But once we all gathered together, I felt like a shrimp!!

Hope you all had a great weekend. Happy Monday :)
