Hassel Smith: Upending Orthodoxy

Hassel Smith: Upending Orthodoxy is a current exhibit at Sullivan Goss' Cooper Gallery in Santa Barbara. This collection first attracted me with all of the vibrant colors. The size of each piece kept me staring at the details, and the abstract and whimsy of the paintings made them easy to enjoy.

Untitled, 1987.

At One Go / AM 20th of Dec, 1995.

Untitled - Red, Yellow, and Green, 1987

Close up detail of the painting from above. I love the brushstrokes and all of the colors.

Untitled - Red, Yellow, and Magenta, 1997. This is my favorite. I think it is the bright liveliness of the colors that draws me in.

Upending Orthodoxy runs through April 3, 2011. Definitely check it out if you're in SB :)

Oh, I would love to see this art exhibit - it looks so interesting, and beautiful! I suppose I'll have to find a way to make it up to Santa Barbara before April! :)
