A message to you: Ceremony Program

Our ceremony programs were prepared of by the St. Barbara Parish's Musical Director. He just needed to input our information (readings, songs, bridal party names, and a blurb from us) into the standard program layout. This was great for us since it required little work on our part, we just had to think up something nice to say. Couples before had written thank-yous, paid their respects, or noted directions to the reception location. I knew our statement would have to represent us.

After some thought, I wanted to write something that described us, acknowledged history, and had an underlying meaning/support for those who cannot marry.
Inspired by the following 2 bloggers and their support of gay marriage: http://budgetbeautiful.wordpress.com/2009/04/10/paying-respect http://stinkerpants.com/blog/2008/06/12/loving-the-programs/ I wrote this as our statement in the program:

We would like to express our deepest thanks and appreciation to our family and friends. We would also like to recognize that at one point during our parents' lifetime, our inter-racial marriage would have been illegal. Through the times of civil rights, Loving Day, HOPE & CHANGE, we are now very fortunate that our marriage and lifestyle is not only acknowledged, but accepted. We are thankful for this freedom and have the utmost respect for those who came before us, over-flowing love for those who lived this journey with us, and wish the best of luck to those who come after.

I think progression can be made and I hope that one day everyone will have the right to marry.
