Lovely Clusters

This Fall season has me obsessing over natural materials, semiprecious gemstones, and freshwater pearls. Since putting together some earrings earlier this month, I am now happy to add necklaces!

Lovely Clusters are semiprecious gemstones and/or freshwater pearls grouped together on a necklace. Stones and pearls are available in a range of colors, textures, and sizes. The necklaces are completely customizable, allowing you to create your own unique look. There are also favorite honey my heart charms available to add to each necklace.

Yay charms!! A little bit of a heart overload, but I can't help it ;)

Lovely cluster necklaces.

Lapis, aquamarine, and yellow jade.

Pink opal, lapis, and labradorite.

Malachite, purple pearl, and peridot.

Labradorite, purple pearl, silver heart.

Pink opal, malachite, gold fill heart.

Lapis, aquamarine, and puffy gold heart.

I love knowing that every aspect of each necklace has come from the earth.

What is your favorite gemstone? What is your favorite combination?

Local Love: Vivier & Bentley

Clutches are my favorite style of handbag/purse to carry. And the more colorful the clutch, the better. When researching my next clutch purchase I found local LA designer Clare Vivier. In love with their wide array of colors available, simplicity of aesthetic, and made in LA appeal, I knew a Vivier clutch would be perfect. We visited the Vivier & Bentley boutique last Saturday to pick up something special.

Located off Sunset in Silver Lake, Vivier and Bentley is a small storefront with the designers' studio in the back. The boutique houses Vivier bags and accessories, Bentley jewelry, and a few curated items. Browsing through the space is a beautiful experience of classic items.

Flat clutches, fold over clutches, and oversize clutches. I spent a while fawning over the beautiful leather of each style.

Our shoes and their painted floor.

Hooray for local made and remade! I love supporting local independent designers. Not only does it strengthen their brand, it strengthens their community.

Forest green wallet and electric blue flat clutch. I'm excited to carry these around and hope to purchase more in other colors.

What is your favorite style of purse? Do you have a favorite local shop?

Local Love is a new weekly series I'm working on. LL post will hold local finds, locally made goods, local foods, local owned shops. It will focus on the Santa Barbara area and also a bit of LA and Portland.

DIY: Glittered Push pins

An important part of my table design is the push pin. I use white map pins that secure each necklace to it's respective heart display. It works really well but I found that with the addition of new pieces, I'm running out of pins! I figured I could go buy more white pins, or style my own with a little sparkle.

Inspired during a recent trip to Paper Source, I gathered some items to create glittered push pins. It's a simple diy and easy to create in one afternoon.

The ingredients: glitter, glue, and pushpins.

The before.

Step 1: Apply a light coat of glue all around the pin head.

Step 2: Dip the glued part in the glitter and roll it around making sure all sides are covered. Then tap the pin part on the edge of the container to get the excess glitter off.

Step 3: let dry and you're ready to go!

You can also add a coat of lacquer or clear nail polish to seal the glitter in :)

The finished product held the packaging of my carved shell flower studs onto a frame.

I heart simple diys. Happy Tuesday!!

Weekend Briefly & Eats

I enjoyed a very eventful weekend in LA with family celebrating and at the Abbot Kinney Fest. Here are a few photos of the fun and food!

Brunch eats at the Buttermilk Truck. A crew was filming "Unique Sweets" and they caught glimpses of us ordering and later enjoying our french toast!

Almond and coconut macarons from 'lette in Pasadena. My second favorite macaron place in LA.

Pastrami sandwich from Oinkster. They also have the best pomme frites.

Looking down Abbot Kinney Boulevard during the fest. So glad the sun came out. The amount of people in the crowd was overwhelming, but we were happy to see friends and meet great people.

My little booth. Chose blues and purples for the hearts and added a lot of new items! I like how the progression of jewelry design and materials can be seen from the plastic cabochon flowers on the left, to the middle glass pearls and sparkles, to the semi precious stones and shells on the right. We are going for more and more natural materials this Fall season and I'm quite excited to share the new styles over the next few weeks with you :)

Fatty tuna and yellow tail for our 2 year wedding anniversary.

And a bouquet of flowers from my mom's fundraiser.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

Hoop Earring Packaging

My usual earring packaging consists of card stock stamped with the honey my heart logo. It works for stud earrings and dangle earrings, but didn't look right with hanging hoops. Because the hoops hang from almost the edge of the card and the logo is smallish, there was just too much open space. There was not enough depth. I brainstormed a few option (using business cards, stamping my logo multiple times), and then I turned to my washi tape collection.

Washi tape is one of my current favorite items to use when packaging and in card design. Not only does it hold things together, but the designs and variety of colors brings depth. Below are a few of the cards that hold my hoops.

Teal, blue, and light blue work well with these blue stone and silver earrings.

And teal, light blue, and purple to complement the gold fill and amethyst earrings.

I'm excited to see how the hoops are received this weekend.

What are your favorite uses for washi tape?

PS happy Thursday! Who's excited for The Office tonight?

Mosaics on Cabrillo

Between Cabrillo Boulevard and West Beach lies a wide sidewalk accented with huge mosaic tile art pieces. Their large scale is hard to miss and their artistry is wonderful. We took an afternoon stroll to capture the art in the street.

Syuxtun Story Circle. An ode to the Chumash Indians, this piece details their story.

The sand dollar in the middle is my favorite detail.

Ripple Effect by Richard Irvine. Perfect due to it's proximity to the Pacific Ocean. I like all of the blue tiles.

Working Harbor by Richard Irvine. This piece is close to the SB Harbor. The boat propellers are reminiscent of flowers and I like it :)

Swimmers by Richard Irvine. This is right next to the aquatic center.

I can't even imagine how many tile pieces went into creating each mosaic piece. All designs are amazing.
