COUNT ME OUT

Today is National Coming Out Day. I was made aware of the COUNT ME OUT social media ambush through the White Knot. COUNT ME OUT is a campaign whose goal is for social media users to “donate” their main profile image to include the word OUT or ALLY on National Coming Out Day and through the week.

As an ally, I've changed my fb and twitter profile photos to the following:

I have also decided to wear my white knot (which is usually on my purse) on my rainbow beads necklace (and other necklaces) throughout the week.

I love how this small symbol makes a statement. Be visible.

Tie the knot, tie tie tie the knot: WhiteKnot.org

My knowledge about White Knot started with this photo of Dustin Lance Black and Cleve Jones at this year's Oscars. With some research I found that the white knot is worn to show support for, start conversations, and raise awareness about marriage equality. I love how this small symbol makes such a large statement, that I knew I had to wear one at my wedding.

It's so great to see the support from so many celebrities like Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon.

It's obviously stylish when Tim Gunn wears it ;)

And can be Magically accessorized on a bracelet a la Anne Hathaway.

I had sent in a self addressed stamped envelope for my free knot about a week ago, and I received my white knot today. Perfect timing, actually.

Since I felt that today was a perfect day to wear a big/statement flower.

Why not add a white knot to it?

The real reason I wanted a white knot was to wear it on my wedding day. Since we are having a Catholic ceremony, there is a good chance that we may not be allowed to completely express how we feel about marriage equality so I thought the white knot would be a perfect way to make the statement.

I plan to pin it close to the top of my dress.

Close to my heart.

The fiance liked the idea of the white knot and plans to get one to wear on his boutonniere. We are also considering purchasing a white knot kit so we can make a few for friends or relatives interested in wearing one.

For more information about the White Knot please visit here. Check out their photo and video section here. Read stories here. Get a badge for your blog here. And donate here.

Will you be making any statements at your wedding? How do you plan to address things you believe in?

What color is love: Loving Day

Today is Loving Day. A day to remember, celebrate, and commemorate the Loving v. Virginia Supreme Court decision that, in 1967, legalized interracial marriage in the United States. A day to enjoy our relationship as an interracial couple (I'm Filipino-American and my fiance is Caucasian). A day to share the impactful history of one couple's fervent fight for the right to marry. A day to push for continued progress in our lives, with much hope in our hearts.

Mildred and Richard Loving's case granted them the freedom to marry and provided every interracial couple in the United States with the opportunity to do the same. To share their love.

Love that august15bride mentioned Loving Day in a blog post this morning.

And love how Sara of Stinkerpants mentioned Loving Day in her beautiful wedding programs.

It's weird to think that during our parents' lifetime, our inter-racial marriage would be considered illegal. Through the times of civil rights, Loving Day, HOPE & CHANGE, we are now very fortunate that our marriage and lifestyle is not only acknowledged, but accepted. We are thankful for this freedom and hope that someday each of our beautifully diverse loved ones can share equally in the privilege of marriage.

Happy Loving Day everyone!
